Comment by Jeremy Stafford-Deitch, renowned author and underwater photographer, about Carolyn’s original paintings:

“As an underwater photographer bewitched by the beauty of the coral reef, every photograph, no matter how patiently composed, is something of a failure. Thankfully, in Carolyn Steele’s paintings (which I collect), the flamboyant denizens of this spectacular world — painted with great fidelity — assume an uplifting interplay. Her art distils what it is to be astonished by the coral reef, an astonishment grounded in the seemingly impossible biological reality she sympathetically and lovingly records.”
